How to Cross from Chiang Rai to Luang Prabang: Essential Border Information
Traveling from Chiang Rai to Luang Prabang is a straightforward process when you know the border crossing requirements. Whether you choose to travel by boat, bus, or train, here's what you need to know about crossing the Thai-Lao border.
Visa Requirements for Laos
- Visa on Arrival: Available at the Chiang Khong/Huay Xai border crossing
- Required Documents:
- Valid passport (minimum 6 months validity)
- 2 recent passport photos
- Completed visa application form (available at border)
- Payment: USD cash or Thai Baht
Border Crossing Process
- Exit Thailand at Chiang Khong immigration
- Cross to Huay Xai, Laos
- Complete visa on arrival form
- Submit documents and payment at Lao immigration
- Receive your visa and entry stamp
